The rumors are true! The coolest kids adventure race on the planet will take place Aug. 4-6 at Wilmot Mountain, located an hour north of Chicago and an hour south of Milwaukee. And, we couldn’t be more excited.

As busy parents, we know it’s hard to find opportunities that allow kids to just be kids, encouraging them to get outside, learn and grow. We feel the Kids Adventure Games, presented by Toyota, is the answer. The games provide kids, ages six to 14, with an excuse to remove themselves from technology and gain an understanding of the great outdoors while becoming environmental stewards, learning teamwork, building confidence and having plain, old-fashioned fun. During the competition, teams of two navigate an adventure course, which includes biking, trekking, rope swings, mud pits, cargo nets, a giant Slip ‘N Slide, zip lines and other exciting obstacles. While they’re getting muddy, wet and smiling, racers will strengthen physical and emotional bonds through a series of challenges centered on building grit and resilience.

Registration is underway at www.kidsadventuregames.com. Early registration is encouraged as many races sold out last summer. Cost is $150 per team of two. Skills clinics are also available the day prior to racing and offer competitors a chance to practice skills such as climbing, mountain biking and teamwork. Skills clinics cost $60 per participant.

Over the past 7 years the Kids A.G. has introduced nearly 15,000 kids to the sport of adventure racing. According to Kids A.G. Co-Founder Hélène Mattison, the Kids A.G. allows kids to just be kids, encouraging them to get outside, learn and grow.

“We’re excited to bring the games to Wilmot Mountain and help kids learn and grow while being active and having a blast,” Mattison said. "What started out as a birthday party for our kids in our backyard has turned into, what we feel is, the coolest and greatest kids adventure race in the nation. We can’t wait to watch the Wilmot Mountain racers challenge themselves while having an unforgettable experience. Parents will be astounded at what their kids can accomplish.”
