Good Grades & Reading Rewards for Bloomington-Normal Area Students!

Local businesses rewarding children's good grades and reading accomplishments.

Good Grades are their own reward, but it’s always nice to get a little something extra for the effort! We received a reader request to check into what goodies and freebies might be out there to give some Kudos for a spectacular report card. Here are a few options for businesses in BloNo who offer some treats to help reinforce that all that hard work is a great idea!
  • At Chuck E Cheese, they value playing hard after working hard! Bring in a report card showing As and receive 15 free game tokens with a food purchase.
  • Orange Leaf is a welcome (and delicious) addition to town! They’ll provide “oz for As”—1 oz of frozen yogurt free for each A on a report card.
  • Krispy Kreme…mmmm…a tasty way to say “great job!” Bring in a recent report card and receive 1 free glazed per A, maximum of 6! A fantastic treat to share with the whole family
  • Family Video has been offering great rewards for years! Each A on a recent report card will get you a free rental. This is a great non-food treat for a movie night (and it goes all the way through college, the only program we found that does!)
  • Upper Limits in Bloomington is offering $1 off a day pass for every "A" on your report card June 1-14 (max of $5 off).
Good grades are great, but rewarding effort can be great reinforcement, too! A few businesses also offer rewards for reading for fun or school.
  • Meatheads offers a free lil Meathead burger for reading 5 books through their Voracious Meatheads Reading Rewards! It’s open for kids ages 13 and under. You can print out a reading log on their website.
  • Barnes & Noble has a Summer Reading Program where kids can earn free books. Details are released in late spring each year. While you’re there, be sure to enroll in their Kid’s Club rewards program for discounts, rewards, and a free birthday cupcake!
  • Six Flags’ Read to Succeed Program begins in the fall and is open to teachers, schools, and homeschoolers. Kids who complete 6 hours of recreational reading are eligible for a free ticket to Six Flags. A great way to remind kids that all that reading pays off in unexpected ways!
Several other businesses we contacted donate coupons for meeting goals in reading programs at schools and libraries (to learn more about our local libraries' reading programs visit the Normal Public Library and Bloomington Public Library). Dunkin’ Donuts/Baskin Robbins, Monical’s, Fazoli’s, Noodles & Co., Wendy’s, McDonald’s and Pizza Hut all have programs in place. You can inquire about available options if you are helping organize a reading program at your school or if you’re a homeschooler. If you have additions to the list, please let us know! We’ll confirm the program and add it to the list.

Because programs can change, calling ahead to your specific destination is a good idea. Now get out there and celebrate all that hard work!
