Since 1981, ISU has offered courses for thousands of area kids from preschool to 10th grade to help make summer educational, entertaining, and, most importantly, fun! Faculty members are experts in their disciplines, as well as being experts in making learning enjoyable and rewarding. Classes are tailored for the interests and abilities of students at each phase of their education. Student-teacher ratios are kept small, helping to make every course a more meaningful learning experience for your child. Plus, with partnerships with District 87 and the Children’s Discovery Museum, CFY is able to offer some unique experiences that are sure to be hits!
In one such experience, District 87 and CFY are partnering to offer KidsFeast for 6th - 8th graders who are interested in working with the latest technologies. The program runs four Saturdays and gives kids the opportunity to experiment with cutting edge technology. On the final afternoon of the program, students will show off their new found knowledge and talent in a “Moveable Feast.”
With the partnership with the Children’s Discovery Museum, CFY brings Mythbusters to 3rd - 6th graders! Do germs really hang around for 5 seconds before jumping on a piece of food that lands on the floor? What would happen to poor Mikey if he ate pop rocks and drank soda? Using real science, students will prove or bust myth after myth. This is a can’t miss class that’s sure to fill up quickly!
Those are only two examples of the awesome offerings in this summer’s course book. One new class this year is “How Do You Sign That?” for 1st - 5th graders, a great introduction to sign language vocabulary, grammar and sentence structure. Or if you think that version of “Let it Go” you’ve been hearing all winter is ready for the big leagues, look into “The Voice” for 6th - 8th graders, a fantastic class to help your child move from singing to the radio to gaining solid vocal technique, singing without straining, and performing. Beyond those, there are courses on science, the arts, magic, music, chess…and so many others!
Sign up is available NOW until May 29th, but some classes will be in high demand! You can view the full course catalog and register on line at http://cfy.illinoisstate.edu/. Classes are held at Thomas Metcalf School, Children’s Discovery Museum and Bloomington High School. For younger children, there are daycare options available at Metcalf. Information on daycare, parking passes, contact information, and scholarships can be found at the College for Youth website.
