How to Manage Holiday Stress: Tips from Go Red For Women

The holidays are a wonderful time filled with family gatherings, delicious food and the spirit of giving. For some, though, the holidays are extremely stressful, and for those who suffer from heart disease or are at a higher risk for heart disease, the added stress can really take a toll on their health.

"Stress can impact sleep, weight, blood pressure, blood glucose levels, and if unmanaged, can lead to heart disease, some cancers, chronic inflammatory disease, and auto-immune disorders, just to name a few," said Erin Kennedy of OSF St. Joseph Medical Center, the local sponsor for the American Heart Association's Go Red For Women campaign, which aims to educate women on their risk factors for heart disease and stroke.

"Take the time you need to minimize stress as much as possible," said Erin. "Tackle unwanted stress by planning ahead, getting some exercise, and staying positive."
