Homeschool Family Wellness at the Y!

Learn about free P.E. classes for your homeschool family!

By Amanda Fazzari, YMCA Marketing Intern September 18, 2013
To our children’s dismay, school has begun and the summer fun is over - no more waking up at noon, watching cartoons for hours, or staying up late with family and friends. Instead, parents are pulling their children out of bed, making lunches, and scheduling pick up or drop offs for afternoon activities. At the dinner table when you ask your children what their favorite subjects are, the most common response is “gym class.” Although this is a realistic response to them, P.E is not part of the academic curriculum. However, physical activity is just as important for your children’s spiritual, mental, and physical development. At the Y, we provide this opportunity – FREE for Y members – every Friday during the fall and spring months for homeschool families and children in a caring and supportive environment.

We believe that you are your children’s primary educator and that your decision to participate in this program in addition to your chosen curriculum is very important for their growth and development. The YMCA uses the FamilyTreeFitness curriculum incorporating a fun and flexible activity schedule while providing opportunities to accomplish the program goals and outcomes. These goals are as follows:
  • Demonstrate competency in motor skills and movement patterns  Demonstrate understanding of movement, concepts, principles, strategies, and tactics as they apply to learning and performance of activities
  • Participate regularly in physical activity
  • Exhibit responsible personal and social behavior that respects self and others
  • Value physical activity for health, enjoyment, challenge, self-expression, and/or social interaction
Weekly Schedule:
  • Age 4-8 Pool 2:15-2:55pm, Gym 3:05-3:45pm
  • Age 9-18 Gym 2:25-2:55pm, Pool 3:05-3:45pm
